Backround to the trip

In 2008 my wife Nicky ran the London marathon, and after she'd successfully completed it and raised lots of money for charity, my brother Mike made the comment - what can we do Pete - how's about cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats? As we were both keen cyclists in our youth I thought this a good idea. I'd also started to cycle to work on a regular basis to keep fit and we'd both bought new bikes.

In 2008 Mike's step-son Charlie was diagnosed with lymphoma whilst at Salford University studying Music. Tragically he died in January 2009 after hospital treatment and support by CLIC Sargent, and since then there have been a number of fund-raising activities, by family and friends, including his brother Robert who did a sponsored walk along the Cornish coast.

Mike and I did a training bike ride in June 2009 around Cornwall, where he lives, of around 200 miles in 3 days, and decided we were up to the challenge. We decided to opt for a supported trip with Discover Adventure - covering around 1000 miles in 12 days. Further details are at http://www.discoveradventure.com/challenge.aspx?t=73

Since our training run I've been keeping fit by cycling to work most days, and going to a spinning class, gym sessions, running, swimming, walking and weekend bike rides whenener I can.

We've started raising money for a target of £6000 for CLIC Sargent at https://www.bmycharity.com/V2/charliewhitecycle Contributions welcome!
